Shoes I used in 2016
So I figured that the 2015 post for the shoes I used was a bit interesting for me. So now in 2016, my life is more invested in running and exercising. Maybe a bit less in basketball. As a disclaimer, I will not post the shoes that I posted from the previous years. Although I have used the Micro G Monza shoes again for a few weeks of running, I retired them after that. I used the other shoes too, but I will not mention them for redundancy purposes.
Rebook One Guide 3.0
I got these shoes in a really big discount in a Reebok factory store I think. It was like around $50. The thing is, I mostly bought those shoes because they seemed like pretty decent running shoes from online reviews, Reebok shoes (like the ones mentioned last year) have been pretty reliable for me, and the tech and specs in these shoes seemed pretty good. Overall, the Micro G Monza were like getting worn out since I used it for like gym work as well as running and used it a lot and it was wearing out quickly.
Overall, these shoes were used for quite a lot of running over the next year. I used them in cross country team training runs, half marathon training runs, and all. But overall, they did not last as long as I wanted to because they felt way too firm. I think the weird feeling eventually contributed to my ‘shin splint’ in Summer 2016. But overall, these shoes were solid for running. The quality feels good, but I think it was a bit way too firm relative to the shoes I like more.
Adidas Energy Boost (1.0)
So I found these in a discount rack as well. Although these shoes were still pretty old relative to modern models when I got them. I decided that I was exercising enough. to have 2 running shoes in my rotation. But I mostly saved these shoes until the half marathon and 10k in May to finally use and incorporate into my running shoe rotation.
Overall, this shoe was my very first boost shoes which was very cool, since it was very very hype and looks cool even. The techfit upper was a really cool elastic feeling and stuff.
Overall these shoes were cushioned nicely and contributed to a lot of my running. I enjoyed running in these shoes a lot, but I think some weird feeling also contributed to my shin splints in 2016. I also used these shoes casually in 2017 since they felt really nice and looked really nice and casual as well. Although the next few versions might be better, this OG version still felt and looked pretty nice. Ran my first 10km and half marathon in these, as well as my second half marathon. Also did a few cross country races in them. Unfortunately, these were my ‘fast’ looking daily trainer shoes that I had; I did not really have any speed shoes at this time.
Minimalist Adidas Shoes
Unfortunately I did not have these shoes’ model names, so I cannot find any photos of them. They were really minimal cushioning (cloud cushioning I think), as well as a minimally knit upper. It was a harder plastic-ish knit I think. It cost $20 and I got it aside the Energy Boost 1.0s mentioned above. Overall, they were for mostly casual wear, and simplistic style. It was not the most comfortable or nicest, but these shoes were minimal and cheap.
Nike Zoom Vomero 10
While injured a bit, I somehow thought I could get another pair of shoes in July 2016. I went to the Nike outlet store, and got the Vomero 10s for another really nice price, like $90.
These shoes were really nice, and I used them in my 1:35 marathon Fall 2016. These shoes helped me in training a lot, and it’s cushioning and comfort was something I enjoyed a lot.
This shoe went all distances, and the different types of cushioning used in the midsole was perfect for my running style and feel. The colourway was really nice since it was reflective during indoor archery tag, as well as the flywire and the upper was very comfortable. I enjoyed using this shoe for a lot of different runs, and I wore them to the ground (casually too). Overall, this is my very first pair of Nike running shoes (when I was truly committed to running). They pretty much swung me over to the checkmark.
Although this was not as nice since it is an older version at the outlet, it was still very nice since I still got all my running shoes at basically big discounts.
Saucony Ride 8
So in the Fall of 2016, I decided to get another pair of running shoes (somehow I wanted to get a lot of pair of shoes despite my really low mileage relative to what I am doing now). The Saucony Ride 8s were on a heavy discount at a store. They seemed like decent running shoes for daily training and stuff, and I wanted to try out Saucony Shoes I think.
These shoes were used in late 2016 to 2017, but I started using these in 2016 (during track and field season indoors and stuff, when I got a minor injury). These shoes were pretty solid, reliable cushioning, fit, and performance and all.
I used these for a nice 1:31 half marathon in 2017 (not sure why I am putting this in 2016 post). But overall, these shoes were nice all-around shoes. Some of the upper aspects (metallic stuff) was a bit unnecessary. But overall these shoes were a nice pair of Saucony shoes, my first and only pair of Sauconys. Some of the modern (1 year old or under) shoes are rarely on big discounts, so I am not too sure when I would. Though the Endorphin line may make me purchase a second one soon.
Under Armour Micro G Assert Grit
I did not find another photo online of this, but these shoes were basically the Assert line, with a grippy outsole (with the rubber spiky protrusions and a water repellent upper). Overall, I used these shoes in Early 2016, and in future years during the winter time, as like a Winter boots replacement, and as a nice pair of winter running shoes with good grip. The MicroG was like pretty nice cushioning, but not too much, but it was good enough for me when I needed to run. Overall, these were nice reliable winter running shoes.
So that is it for the running shoes I used in 2016. Overall I ran a lot more this year (and got ‘injured’) and bought a lot more new shoes and all. It was very fun to try out different shoes and brands. Running is fun that year. Some shoes were not as good since I was still experimenting with models and brands, it was a bit bad that all the shoes I bought in this time period are heavily discounted. But for my running level, it was fine to run in them and all.
