My Apple Music ‘REPLAY 2019’
This post goes over my ‘top’ songs of 2019 on Apple Music
So this is similar to the post I made the other day about the Apple Music generated playlist for the end of year 2019. Except 2019 I used Apple Music basically the whole year (since I only started using it end of 2018).
Intro
So for a quick backstory (promise it’ll be short), this year was basically split up to three phases, which sort of dealt with the music I listened to too. The first third of the year I was doing my internship, and I used Spotify for a lot of the music since I mostly listened to the Spiderverse album (super super good), and Spotify app ran really good on windows computer for work and stuff (listened to a lot of music during work of course). I also listened to a lot of music to and from work during the 30 minute commute, as well as exercising after work.
Phase 2 was a school term during the Spring/Summer, and I listened to music a lot, usually during morning runs and during studying stuff. Phase 3 was another internship, now in Austin, and I listened to it during work, and during morning workouts mostly. So yeah.
So my first impressions of this card is that it is expected. K dot was a lot during the beginning of the year and throughout the summer, mostly the DAMN album cause it was very nice. Kanye West was just like last year, great music all around. Swae Lee was from the nice collab album SR3Mlife (or however you spell it) as well as Sunflower. Black Caviar thing was from this one song from the spiderverse album that was very nice. Metro Boomin was from his nice album that I still listened to a lot this year Not All Heroes Wear Capes (still never gets old). Lil Wayne I was not too sure why he was there. Was this a good reflection of the artists I listened to? Probably, though the end half there can be some replacements. One of them can be Taylor Swift, where I listened to her album Lover from top to bottom almost every day during ‘phase 3’ of the year. But I guess I didn’t listen to her enough.
However as a disclaimer I do not know exactly what factored into this playlist, and how much of a difference listening on the phone vs desktop made.
The Actual Replay Playlist
Just like last time, I’ll just breeze through the songs by sets of 10 since there is a lot. Some references will be made to explanations above, as well as last year’s. Another reference is that I got the Apple Watch this year, so I was mostly using that to listen to music during workouts, and I like how there’s some albums that are autosaved; I end up listening to them top to bottom, since there’s not much to change. But I really enjoy listening to full albums in the proper order!
So yeah, PRIDE was already explained above. I really really like this song all around, and it has great lyrics as well as solid beat and all. Super super nice. Champions was still very nice and hype, explained in last year’s. The Spiderverse album was super super good that I listened to a lot on both spotify and apple music this year. Super solid and hype. I really enjoy listening to this from top-to-bottom. Metro Boomin was like last year. This year’s Kanye was Runaway instead of Devil in a New Dress. Runaway is like one of my favorites of all time of course, and I listened to it a lot more this year, especially during phase 3 after morning exercise and breakfast, while washing my dishes. Now Or Never was a nice bonus track I found thanks to Apple Music which was super super nice overall nice lyrics and message and cool stuff. The Night King was very nice to chill to and all and great soundtrack for S7 of GOT, especially the Arya scene made it like 1000x better. I really enjoy listening to it during rolling and cool down stretches during phase 2.
Pursuit of Happiness was some nice very very nice, that I still listen to a lot of these days. Very very nice for some reason, such a great song all around. Was listening to a lot of Man on the Moon during its 10th anniversary during that time. That song was just so awesome. Lockjaw was just very nice collab song and hype. Metro Boomin explained last year; just very very good. And since I listen to most things top to bottom, I listened to this album a lot; no regrets since it was very good. Spiderverse songs very good explained above as well. No Church in the Wild was another nice Kanye song with nice Frank Ocean stuff in it. Very hype and all for phase 1 while working to work. DAMN stuff explained above, very nice.
TLOP very nice (explained in 2018 post) and waves was nice and hype. WIN was nice and hype as well, very nice and positive stuff. It’s Been a long long time was nice and chill, and it was nice from Endgame that I enjoyed a lot. Powerglide nice, SR3MM stuff explained above, but it was a very nice solid album! KSG stuff explained in 2018 I think, but yeah I listened to it a lot more since I had it on my watch for a bit. Metro Boomin explained previously. Man on the Moon explained above as well stuff. The YG song was very nice and hype and I enjoyed the lyrics, especially the Jay Rock verse. Kendrick explained above.
The metro boomin stuff explained before. Light of the Seven was another very nice game of thrones song, very nice season 6 throwback and very cool scene too. I liked it a lot, and nice cooldown after run during phase 2. Nice song. Spiderverse, Kendrick, and KSG stuff already explained before. As you can see, a lot of the songs are similar in the same album/artist and all, and it’s no coincidence; I listened to a lot of songs in the album from top-to-bottom, so if one is there, the others should be there too.
Spiderverse and Metro Boomin stuff already explained before. Devil in a New Dress was still a super good song, explained more of it last year. KSG stuff explained before; had the nice playlist on the watch so nice 25 minute listen during part of a run. Wolves was very very nice from TLOP. Nice verses and beat and all.
Metro Boomin explained before. The Black Panther songs were just really nice songs that I listened to a lot during phase 1, while walking to work. Sounded really good. The Morning was a nice cruel summer song, I listened to a lot of it during phase 1. DAMN and KSG already explained before. No More Parties in LA nice TLOP with Kendrick in it, was nice during phase 1 especially during treadmill running. Goosebumps nice song, just like last year. The Creed II song was nice and hype just like last year. Run this Town was still a very good song this year, so I still listened to it a lot (more explanation on last year’s stuff).
Momma I hit a lick was a nice song from the new 2 chainz album, nice Kendrick feature and beat and all. Lana Del Rey I did not listen to as much this year (during most of the year, I listened to her new album a lot during phase 3 actually), so yeah. DAMN and MOTM explained above. SR3MM was nice, usually don’t skip it on shuffles either. King’s Dead was still a nice hype song. Creed II song explained above and previously. Senorita was very very nice actually; I started listening to it a lot in September, somehow it still made it to this playlist surprisingly. It tapered off in plays around November and December. But I remember playing it before playing Lover during morning runs during phase 3. Sicko Mode was still nice and hype; can say the same for HUMBLE.
Star Is Born songs were always nice, and very very good vocals. MOTM explained before. I listened to Camila a lot this year relatively I think; never be the same was a very nice song. Empire State of Mind was still nice Jay Z that I don’t mind listening to, nice vocals and hype and all. MIddle Child was a nice hype song. Lannister song had a very nice melody and nice backstory and very cool. Lover songs kind of explained above; took a while to get here though :/. Icon was a nice jokes song, especially during the icon living period during phase 2; kind of hype song?
All the stars was still a very nice classic 2018 song. Lover stuff explained above. MOTM explained above. SR3MM explained above. KSG explained above. Dear Mr Fantasy was nice from endgame and a cool song so I listened to it a bit. Nice Frozen 2 movie around November release, so I listened a lot of nice from both Frozen movies around that movie date.
Shallow there, kind of explained above, a super nice song. DNA nice hype from DAMN. MOTM, Lover, SR3MM stuff explained above. MBDTF was like one of my favorite albums (also refer to Kanye West explanations from before), so I listened to that album a lot, especially thanks to Apple Watch I could usually do top-bottom. Nice 1.4 hours of nice. Got a nice ASAP song as well; it was nice and hype during phase 1.
Conclusion
So yeah. Not too many surprises. 100 songs for 6h 36 minutes total play time. Cool seeing how so many songs are from basically the same album, since I listened to that album a lot of times because when I am running, I would just select an album to play through, rather than shuffling my library or adding stuff to playlist. Playing an entire album seems more organic and nice. Hopefully I can make a 2020 one soon, but maybe I’ll make it when 2020 ends since it can be fully accurate.
