Whole Foods Raspberry-Filled Donut Review

So I rarely have donuts, except when I feel energy-less or need a boost that is a good time before or after lunch as a snack. I am used to store bought (non fresh) donuts such as Walmart ones, or premade frozen non-fresh ones such as from Tim Horton’s.

I do not know whether or not Whole Foods makes their donuts in-store, but from the wrapper, it does state the made on date, and expiry date, which makes me believe that it is legit, a ‘fresh’-er donut relative to what I usually have!

Pink glaze! Mmmmmmmm….

Unboxing

The donut was wrapped in standard plastic wrapping, since I got it somewhere outside of Whole Foods. But overall, it was alright presentation. However since it moved around a bit during its travel probably, the donut glazing was a bit smushed along the wrapping. But nonetheless, it still felt like a great donut!

Unwrapping it was not too convenient, since there was icing/glaze in a lot of places; but overall it was still nice since the donut does not make too much mess. 6/10.

Texture

The texture felt like regular donut texture. Biting in it feels nice and like a normal donut bite. The glaze on top combined with the semi-fresh, puffy dough inside was very satisfying. There was a generous amount of raspberry filling on the inside (not too much, but still a nice dense amount). It felt very nice, as it slightly combined with the dough as I ate it.

Thiccccccccc

Overall, no complaints, and it felt great overall. However I did not reheat it or anything, so it was a lukewarm-room temperature donut. Ok. 7/10.

Flavor/Taste

I really really enjoyed the flavor. It was not too sweet, yet it was sweet enough with the glaze and filling to make my taste buds satisfied. I felt a slight freshness compared to pre-frozen ones. The filling was very raspberry-like, and very good, as expected. The pink glaze did not over-dominate in flavor, yet it was a nice add-on to make the dough sweeter and all.

The donut overall was soft, and tasted great. What a nice donut should actually taste like! Excellent and enjoyable! 9/10

Nutrition

When you think of Whole Foods, you might think it uses more nutritious stuffs. But however, looking at the ingredients, it seems like the average jelly-filled donut.

Nutrition Facts!

The doughnut was made with the usual ingredients; not the best quality oils (though I do not know that much about baking), and sugar all over the place. It used natural flavors, sugar, glucose syrup, and a bunch of stuff to make it taste nice. The raspberry puree filling had natural flavors, nd a bunch of different sugars. Overall, it’s just a pastry/snack/dessert that is going to help someone increase calories, if they are not eating enough. Not the worst thing of course, as it is not completely doused in sugar/oil/bad stuff. It’s just a sweet donut basically. Cool. 3/10.

Price

At a cool $3 CAD at the Whole Foods this was obtained from, I can say that this donut is a lot more expensive than other convenience stores, retailers, and coffee shops. However, I enjoy that it was probably made more freshly, and better sourced ingredients since it is from Whole Foods. However, I will not really justify $3 for a regular jelly-filled donut. Nothing too special about this one. The glazing is good, the donut is good, but nothing that good. 1.5/10.

Overall

Overall, this was a great donut. I did not buy it, so I do not care about the price. The experience of eating this pastry was very nice, and I enjoy the raspberry and sweetness of this donut. Seemed like an above average experience, and I like it! Not too healthy though… 7.2/10.

A good donut I would eat again, though I rarely eat donuts…. Had better, but had a lot much worse.
