Under Armour Fly Fast ColdGear Tights Impressions

A solid pair of winter running tights

So I got these tights earlier this week because I really needed a new pair of winter running tights. I have like two or three solid ones I use right now, but one of them is over 5 years old, and the warmth materials are starting to wear out. So I got these one on the Under Armour store. It was in stock, and at a decent price of $90.

Well 90 is quite expensive relatively speaking, but I know this pair can be used for the next few years since under armour tights that I have experience with tend to last a while nicely. Also these were like the cheapest ones on their online store. I got it here (Canada). I did not really check the clearance section because maybe there might be a cheaper one. But what I really wanted is a winter specific pair of tights for nice running.

The overall design is alright. All black basically. A small under armour brand on the right quad/hip area. And the big reflective-ish word-logo on the front-right portion of the right leg, which is interesting since word branding typically is near the side or back, but now it is at the front.

The back portion is a few reflective elements, and a small zipper pocket on the top part. To be honest, I expected it to be a bit bigger to fit something nicer, but when I got it, the pocket was a bit smaller than expected. So maybe keys and one or two gels at max. Oh well, I probably have other storage compartments in my other winter running gear anyways.

There’s zipper things at the very sides of the tights near the lower end of the legs to make it for an easier on-off, I assume, and maybe the unzipping and rolling up of the bottom portion of tights can be done in slightly warmer conditions. Overall, it’s a nifty feature I guess.

‘DNA’ of the product (from their website)

Overall, the fit is nice. Not too bad. It is tight and compressed throughout my leg region. The fit is what I would expect; a tight-ish feel all over my lower body. It was not the easiest to put on, which I expect from brand new tights. I have had medium-sized under armour tights before, and these ones are no different in the time it takes to put it on (not too long overall though). It is tight, but not the suffocating tightness that might put marks around my waist.

The comfort is nice. The zippers on the sides and back cannot really be felt during my workout and everything like that. The compression-ness feels like a good amount. Maybe slightly tighter compression might have been better, but for winter running, the tightness is just fine, and my legs felt really comfortable throughout the run. Although I have only gone on like a 1-hour run on these tights so far, I feel that these tights are very good. Although I have not fully sweat everything out or pushed myself to a hard effort to fully test the moisture handling capabilities of these tights, overall. For colder temperatures, I think it will handle everything fine, as good as my other winter running tights. Not super duper warm, but there is still a good amount of thickness to it.

In conclusion, my first impression of these winter running tights is that it is a solid option. Although maybe I would have liked a slightly looser waistband for a easier on-off, the overall compression feels nice and the fit is well. Am I in love with it so far that I would pick up another pair? Probably not. There are probably better quality tights for higher prices from other brands. These may not be specifically designed for running and tailored to that sport (not sure). But I think these tights are solid, and does a great job.
