Starting to Play League of Legends

Will I get hooked onto this game?

So I finally installed league of legends on my laptop. After around 8 years of watching my friends play a lot and talk about it, I finally made the jump and installed it. I also played my first ‘game’ which is just the first tutorial, which I will talk about in this post.

Why did it take so long to install?

I was not really interested in the game for a long time. I also did not really have any gaming setup or anything so I assumed the game would not run on my older laptops.

However, this year in particular, I started watching a lot of competitive esports videos, with a lot of league of legends. I watched around 1 hour of LOL footage from like Worlds and LCS and stuff and it looked super nice and cool. League of Legends is a bit like cooperative chess which is super cool.

EU LCS

I also realized that my Macbook Pro, despite how bad it is for gaming (min specs), seeing how it could not run Fortnite 2 years ago, was seemingly alright given the specs. I know that it might be laggy and the fan will go off, but I decided to finally take a shot. After watching Worlds 2020 and how fun everything is, I decided to install.

Creating an Account

I somehow had a riot account made a long time ago for some reason. But now I had to make a new one. The client has a nice looking UI and it was a pretty smooth account process, and creating a new summoner name and all. The initial game client and stuff seemed pretty lag free which was good, since it is just the client.

Also, the install took a very long time. But I guess this is a pretty big game? Whatever.

First tutorial

So I quickly played the first tutorial. I decided to record all my games I will be going through, as a good progression tracker and possibly help me improve in the future. For this first tutorial, I did not really plan too much so I was only playing on my bluetooth mouse (and holding my phone on my other hand). I should probably use a keyboard in the future since some controls were weird.

Overall, the tutorial experience was a bit smooth. Some things on the screen were quite overwhelming and there was a lot of info to gauge. However, it was a bit fun finally dealing damage and using special moves.

I would also probably play on a bigger monitor next time. My laptop was connected to a bigger monitor but somehow the game client only ran on the laptop screen.

Overall, it was cool learning what some things did. The basic game mechanics were already known since I watched esports, but the in-game experience feels very new and different. I enjoyed it.

Hopefully, I can continue to document this process. I want to be a pro one day!
