My First Twitch Stream(s)!!!
First of all, my twitch channel is found at https://www.twitch.tv/zoywongus :), a lot more content to come from it!
I started my very first stream this past Saturday, May 1st. It was just a ~1 hour stream playing chess on chess.com. I guess one of my goals this summer is to reach a mediocre/decent rating for a beginner.
It was a cool experience, using OBS to stream, and having the Twitch stream manager open on my second laptop screen at the same time while playing chess on the first monitor screen. Seeing the stats come in real time, along with the comments for the stream was pretty nice. Apparently I got raided by these 3 other people which is pretty nice, and I think some of them followed me!
The first day was nice, since I ended up going 4–1 I think for the day, putting my rating > 600! It was really awesome since I had only played 1 chess.com came before that and yeah.
One thing I noticed was that I played really slow since I was a big beginner. However, the intense game was cool to stream, and I got pretty hyped for my viewers. But overall, I am still new to streaming, so my posture was not the best and I could have made my body language a bit better. My hand was on my chin a lot, and yeah.
Overall it was still nice. A streaming webcam on the bottom right of my screen capture. I think this simple format will do fine for now, before I start adding any more fancy stuff ;).
On Sunday, I decided to stream again for around 50 minutes. I was able to his 750 rating which was super exciting!!!!
Went 2–0 for the day with some pretty intense matches! I got some nice viewers in as well, and it was pretty fun and intense. Like before, I was not sure how to manage my time well. I was only doing 10 min rapid. Maybe I should do 15/10 rapid in the future to help, since I was still very unfamiliar with chess patterns and all.
I also did some practice against bots which was pretty neat! Overall, I see tiny tiny tiny improvements in my chess game! I learned the London system and King’s Indian for openings. I still mess them up at times (such as the ordering, and random situational moves that might mess up those setup openings), but I know that I am starting to get the hang of it!
So what’s next? I will try to stream at least 3 times a week over the summer! Hopefully I can grow my channel more, and reach ~1000 rating in chess soon (in rapid, blitz and bullet!!!!!). Hopefully the streams can also be a bit longer. Those two first streams were mostly experimental, but seeing that it turned out nicely, maybe I should do around 2–3 hours as a next step? Also I might devote some time for other games, such as minesweeper or solitaire, which should run decently on a Macbook Pro base-ish model while streaming.
Maybe some just chatting stuff would be cool too ;). But overall, these first few Twitch streams were pretty cool! I am starting to feel nicer and nicer by the day! Although I have done live streams like Facebook in the past, this one is a stream-streaming service, meaning it is much more accessible and discoverable, and the random viewers I got in the first few days really proves it! Overall, I am excited and super excited, can’t wait to see what’s next!
