My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Album Review
One of my favorite albums of all time
As I may have mentioned many times in the past writeups/blog posts, Kanye’s classic album from 2010 is one of my favorites of all time. I have listened to it countless times over the last 3 or so years.
As a simple music listener, I do not explore music too often, hence I did not start listening to too much music until the end of 2014. For this album, I first started listening to Monster and Runaway, two super duper duper nice songs. I have listened to this album while working out, running, studying, sleeping, and everything. It is a really good album, and it is truly a work of art. It is also an album that I have a CD for!
I still listen to this album to this day, and it is clear that this is my all time favorite Kanye West album. So let’s get to each song.
The album starts off with Dark Fantasy, and it features Nicki Minaj. The production is done really really well overall, and the lyrics and meaning is nice too. This trend will pretty much continue with all the songs, especially the production part. Not the most catchy, not my favorite in terms of overall style, but the song feels like a pretty grand entrance overall. The rap part is decently nice too. 8.5/10
Gorgeous is one of the longer songs in this album. I enjoyed the length in it and the features in it is really nice too. Kid Cudi, Raekwon, etc were really nice. The production was really good too. I especially enjoyed the lyrics and meaning behind a lot of the song. Very nice wordplay, and really nice to listen to. 10/10
A super catchy song, probably one of the bigger ‘hits’ of this album, and probably played in a lot of sport events these days from what I can recall. This song is pretty hype, and the production is super super well done (apparently it took hundreds of hours to produce, wow). Overall, a very high energy song that is very enjoyable to listen to. 9.5/10
All of the Lights (Interlude)
Not really much to say. I enjoyed the production I guess, but there’s no lyrics or much since it is just an interlude, so I will not really rate it or anything. But it fits nicely with everything else when listening to this album from top to bottom which is nice.
All of the Lights
Again, very very nice production. The features are also very very good, shoutout to Rihanna! A nice more pop-style song, and overall, every part of the song is very enjoyable, pretty catchy too! 10/10
Wow, a very cool and nice song to listen to! The intro was super good, and all the verses (of course especially Nicki Minaj’s goated verse) fit very well and are very nice. The beat is very nice too! Song is over six minutes, but the length still feels good! 10/10
Another song over six minutes in length, but is just as good as Monster in my opinion! The features are very nice as well, from Jay Z, Pusha T, and Cyhi, and more. I really liked the production and lyrics and all. Nice upbeat song, and part to the main ‘meat’ middle of this album, which is like one of the best span of consecutive songs to play in an album (ever!) in my opinion. 10/10
Devil in a New Dress
Arguably the best song in this album. It is either between this one or the next one. But the production by Mike Dean is A1 throughout the entire song! So good! The Rick Ross verse is of course one of the best of all time! All of this song is so good! The lyrics are also very nice too. I will probably put this song maybe top 50 all time for me (maybe even better!). 10+/10
This song brings me back very far, one of the first Kanye songs I have actually enjoyed listening to. I have listened to this song the most out of all the other songs in this album. It is just so good. Most of the time, this would be my favorite of the album. The Pusha T feature is so good, and I really love to rap along with him when his feature starts. The song is nine!!!! minutes long, but every second of it is just so good. The piano is so good. Everything is just amazing! 10+/10
Hell of a Life
Not a big fan of this song overall. The production and lyrics are alright, but I guess after the span of the last few songs, the expectations are super high. I guess the song is alright, but I am just not a big fan of it overall. I usually skip over this song :( 5.5/10
Not really too good of a song relative to the rest of this album, but it is still pretty nice; the John Legend feature is really good too! The beat is nice, the lyrics are pretty nice too. Just not the best compared to the other songs. 8/10
Lost in the World
I enjoy this song a lot too. Kanye’s verse (or poem I guess) is really good. Bon Iver’s feature is really good too, and the lyrics are really good. I enjoy listening to this song. A different style compared to the other songs, but it is still nice. 9/10
Who Will Survive in America
I am not too sure how much of a song this song qualifies as, since it is only around 1.5 minutes long. I think this is more of a conclusion type of song. It is fine I guess. The lyrics are cool, and the meaning of it is nice. But overall not really a ‘song’ song. 7.5/10
See Me Now
Apparently this is a bonus track for the iTunes store or something like that. For Apple Music, I was able to listen to this song for over a year, but somehow it got pulled from it (and of course it was not on Spotify before that). But I loved this song a lot too, a really great and nice upbeat song. The production is super well done, and the Big Sean and Beyonce features are exceptional! I enjoyed every part of it! A great positive song to listen to, and very fun and nice! Too bad I cannot listen to it as much these days :( 10+/10
So overall, this album is fantastic. One of my favorites of all time, if not my favorite. Pretty much every song from top to bottom is an amazing listening experience, and I am thankful that I have been listening to this album so much now! The production, features, lyrics, and every part of this album is just amazing. 10+/10
I do not think this album would age for me in the future. A constant classic, and just a pure masterpiece!
